Wine lovers continue to discuss about the pros and cons of both the screw top and the cork-sealed wine bottles. The endless debate on which one is better continues to pervade dining tables, and gatherings whenever such topic is floated.
In an article Seattle Times published, it mentioned that a group of wine experts prefer the screw cap seal over cork seals for fine wines. Menu

“Cork developed as the main wine stopper because it was spongy enough to be forced into the neck of a bottle, and then expanded to form a seal. ‘A perfect cork doesn’t let in air,’ Henick-Kling said. But a bad cork will quickly oxidize wine. The problem, he said, is there is no practical way to test every cork, so winemakers always run a risk of a corky or poorly aged wine. Under caps, ‘you can control oxidation. You can completely keep it out, or allow a small, controlled amount of oxygen to get in,’ Henick-Kling said.”

The Business Insider published another article, still on the same debate. It underscored the fact that screw-top wines are not inferior to its cork-sealed counterparts. IntertwinedEscondido

“While many bulk wines use screw caps — which is likely where the stigma originated — a screw cap is by no means and indicator of the quality of your wine. In fact, any high-end wines also bear a twist-able top. For example, New Zealand has been transitioning to the twist-off style in recent years. Harbertson said that the screw-top is just as effective as cork at keeping air out.”

The British website Daily Mail meantime shared a good way to seal wine – this time with the least carbon foot print.

“But with the creation of what has been billed as the world’s first carbon-neutral, fully recyclable third option – now on sale at Waitrose – wine drinkers may have the best of both worlds.”
