Upcycling Beer Bottle Caps

I Have an Excuse! It's for ART!

Beer Bottle Caps may just be a trash to some, but it can definitely be a piece of art.

The website Best of New Orleans featured an artist that came up with a wonderful piece.

“Ian Vandenberg uses bottle caps, particularly from Abita Brewing Company beers, to create pictures of Louisiana wildlife, college logos and fleur-de-lis (‘Everybody wants a fleur de lis, I’ve probably done a hundred’). He’s a professional graphic designer and he likens the caps to computer-graphic pixels – the small dots that make up images on computer screens.”

Regional Folk Art

A couple featured by the website Daily Press meantime turns beer bottle caps into regional folk art.

“Servers at the Yorktown Pub know when Paul Cochrane rides up on his 2007 Super Glider Harley, he’s after two important things – a chilled beverage and all the beer bottle caps he can haul home. Back at his garage workshop in Gloucester, Paul and wife Pam transform those bottle caps into folk art – mermaids, starfish, fish of all types, crabs and sea turtles – that’s marketed under the name Beach House Bottlecap Art.”

The website Upcycle That meantime featured other forms of bottle cap art.

“In order to make his awesome bottle cap art, Josh first cleans the caps and sorts them according to colour. He then removes the liners. Depending on what he is making, he might flatten the bottle caps. Most pieces are constructed by cutting the caps and crimping them together. Larger pieces usually require a support or substructure (Josh tries to use upcycled or scrap materials for that too). A lot of trial and error or engineering are often required if it’s a new project he hasn’t attempted yet.”
